Allergy and eczema

Posted in atopic eczema, Blogroll, dermatology, frustrations, itchy, life, scratch, skin at 10:34 am by azah

For me they go together. Recently I was at a shoot for a local drama. Was on location the whole day. And I did not have time to prepare my food to bring along. My food. The ones that I know does not have anything I am allergic too.

Time can for the runner to buy dinner. He was nice enough to ask me what I can’t eat. So I have him the list. He was listening intently to what I had to say and wrote it all down. Dinner came around and everyone stopped to eat. I had noodles. It was black in colour. I had a feeling it had oyster sauce in it, but did not want to complain. I went on eating. I did not complain because there was no restaurants near there or fast food place that they could run too and reorder my dinner. Besides by the time everyone had finished it was time to continue the shoot. Then I really would not have time to eat. And I can’t work on an empty stomach.

As a result. My eczema on my face and neck and front portion of my shoulder and the front of my elbow and the back of my knees are bad and itchy. After the dinner incident I have had not slept much. Every time lay my head down my neck touches the bedding, as it naturally does, the itch starts. So in the end I sit up and felt unhappy. I’m sleepy yet itchy and cannot sleep because. There was one night I could not sleep till 8.30am. It was the shear sleepiness of the sleepless night that got me to bed.The next night I took a sleeping pill. I know that if I did not take the pill I would not be able to sleep again. Three nights in a row of not sleeping takes a toll.

I have to always be ready for camera. This gives me stress and stress does not help the issue. Its like a vicious circle.

Today its getting better. All dried up and flaky. The minute my neck hits the bed there it goes again, the dreaded itch. It flakes so much, and the flakes are minute, that I have to dust my bed everyday. And when the flakes fall off on their own it feels sand on my shoulder or it looks like dandruff on my clothes. Either way it not a nice after feeling.

I really feel upset this time because I share a bed with my husband. Though he does not complain I feel really guilty and shy at the same time.

I know the allergy will pass and I have been through this episode so many times is like a broken record. It not like a rerun of friends.

I hope to sleep tonight without the help of my sleeping pill. I don’t want to be addicted to sleeping pills. Which I am fearful off.

Sleepy and tired.

Itchy

hye there. im also an eczema sufferer and ive been reading your blog. however my eczema differs alot from yours. i have never experience flaky skin. The itch is constantly there and i scratch like a mad lady unconditionally. The scars are hideous and theyre all over the body (help me get rid of the scars please, if u happen to know of any treatment). im not sure myself if this is really eczema. been to many skin specialists, they said this is eczema but nothing helped. in the end i opted for an alternative treatment and the eczema is now gone (not really gone but i dont itch alot and dont scratch much like before). I just turned 21 last year. according to a skin specialist i visited years ago, the immune system in our body will ‘reborn’ in every 7 years (at the age of 7, 14 and 21) and stop at the age of 21. So im kinda unsure which solved the eczema (the alternative treatment or the immune system itself). Im just happy to find your blog. your writings have helped me in so many ways. One of it is that i know that im not alone 🙂 Keep on posting entries.

I read a few very interesting articles about eczema at Child Eczema Free. My daughter has an eczema problem and I does not know much about the ins and outs of it. So I suggested the above website. My child skin problem seems to be getting better. I guess that knowing about what may be ailing you is half the battle!

At first, when my eczema flared up, I always went to either my Pediatrician/Internal Medicine/Dermatologist and they always gave me steroid creams/ointments. Aclometasone, Triamcinolone, Mometasone, Fluocinonide, Fluocinolone, Fluticasone, Betamethasone or the most potent Clobetasol. I got tired of using these creams/ointments/foams and my friend who suffered from eczema as a child recommeneded me to go see an allergist.. I went to an allergist and did a food allergy test and it came back that I was postively allergic to RICE, WHEAT, YEAST, CORN, SESAME. and some environmental agents such as MOLDS/FUNGI, AMERICAN and EUROPEAN DUSTMITES, and CATS. I thought to myself “I’m Chinese, how can I be allergic to RICE and SESAME? I’ve been eating it for 22+ years” Then I did an environmental allergy test and it came back that I was allergic to specific types of POLLENS, TREES, and WEEDS. Lastly, I did a chemical test and I was shocked that I was allergic to PARABENS, commonly found in SUNSCREEN, LOTIONS, CREAMS, and OINTMENTS! So I started doing allergy shots where they mix a tiny bit of each of the antigens I am allergic to and inject me with it. 3 shots for me since I had so many allergies. So it first started out 2 days a week, weekly, then two days week every other week and now its one time a week every other week and I am on my last vial of antigens and at a maintanence dosage. If you have an allergist, I recommend that you be tested, you’ll be suprised. Now that I know that I am allergic to dustmites I bought specific hypoallergenic bed protector, sheets, pillowcases and I vacuum religiously even my blinds.

        HI there,

I went to Dr. Yadar Pantai hospital in bangsar to get my allergy test. He drew blood from me so test my allergies that way. We did not do a patch test. From there he identified what i was allergic too. I remember we did it twice so now when I avoid those foods my skin is much much better and manageable. I did not take any allergy shots from him. 🙂

        Hope this helps.

hi, may i ask how much the whole allergy testing at Dr. Yadar pantai hospital cost you?
I’m a student and have constantly battled with ezcema and urticaria. Its beginning to impact my studies.

Christopher’s experience is similar to mine. Initially suspecting that I was allergic to seafood, beef, lamb etc, I abstain from these food. However, my eczema did not improve. It was after an allergy test, that I found out the allergens that triggers my immune system are house dustmites, feline fur and dog fur.

It is amazing how with just a bit of re-configuration of my living environment – installed anti-mites cover sheets over my mattress and pillows. Threw out all soft furry toys and towels. Make sure all bedding is vaccumed once a week.

At about the same time, I also started taking Olivenol, and olive juice extract that has some track record on being effective on on skin discorders. See link http://www.olivenol-livin.com.my

It could be just the environment change or a combination with olivenol, my condition improved dramatically. All my lesions are gone and I have not had a flare for more than 6 months. In fact, my skin (shins, thighs) actually look like any healthy person’s. The scarring and “dark” patches have all cleared.

If anyone is interested to located an immunologist (allergy specialist), check out Professor Aman. He has a clinic is Klinik Harnam on Jalan Ipoh.

    Just sharing.

For years i’ve been suffering from eczema. Something that i’d learn from this…PATIENCE. A simple word but of course, takes a long time to understand. Well, just like to share some emotional moments with you….Hope this will be part of your medications… : )

Hi, I’ve also had eczema since I was little, so I really feel for you. After over 25 years of suffering from eczema and having two sons who had it, I’ve found emu oil–a natural way to relieve it, with no side effects! We tried all kinds of creams and soaps, to no avail, until I found this. Drinking veggie smoothies every morning has also helped a lot (veggies are very important for eczema sufferers). My eczema is almost cleared and my boys haven’t had any rashes for the past one year. I wish I’d known about emu oil MUCH sooner, so hope this helps you, too! You can find out more about the emu oil, as well as practical skin care tips, on my friend’s site: http://emuseemuoil.blogspot.sg/
